How did Swinging Begin?

Swinging in the sense that we know it, began back in the 1950’s, in the United States, among a group of elite fighter pilots. These pilots, in general, made enough money to bring their wives close to their base. Because the fatality rate of their branch was the highest of all the branches of service, this led to the swapping of wives with other pilots, becoming acceptable. After the Korean War had ended, the pilots spread out to the suburbs and this is when the media found out about the swapping and reported it to the public. Thus the beginning of Swinging as we know it.

After the media so blatantly described the doings of these pilots and their wives, and might I add were not generally nice about it, the public wanted to know more. They were very interested in this lifestyle, and all over the world, people became involved in swinging. Soon after, there were many different magazines available throughout the world that advertised swinger ads. The magazines provided swingers with a medium, which allowed for the first of all swinger parties to be advertised.

In 1960, the first swinger clubs that were permanent began to appear. Typically, they were all off-premise swinger clubs in the beginning. Then soon after the first on-premise swingers club was erected in New York. Still yet, even after the on-premise swinger club was established, people still generally enjoyed “dances”, as the popular form for off-premising swinging clubs.

In 1975, an American doctor founded the lifestyles organization, which began the subsequent hosting of the first Lifestyles Conventions. His main goal was to imporove the image within the public regarding the swinging lifestyle. The public had, for far too long, thought of the lifestyle negatively and the goal of Dr. Robert McGinley was to educated people throughout the world.

In 1979, Dr. McGinley subsequently founded the NASCA, North American Swing Club Association. His intent was that the NASCA serves as a standar organization for owners of swing clubs. This would be the start of a world wide trend.

Currently the swinging community is experiencing a great surge in interest and common growth in the lifestyle. People throughout the world have engaged in this lifestyle for various reasons of their own.

Swingers often like the lifestyle because they see it as an opportunity to experience the first date feeling once again. They feel assurance that they are still an attractive and very desirable human being. Many people find that, in general, people within the swinging lifestyle are accepting to various different types of body’s, ages, shapes and sizes.

Another common reason for participating is the friendships that are typically formed with other swingers. Generally, people cannot openly talk about sex, their experiences or fantasies with their non-swinger friends. However, with fellow swingers, it is easy to open up and they tend to feel more comfortable in talking openly about sexual behaviors. For whatever reason you choose to join the swinging community it is a personal reason not to be taken lightly.

In the next article we will investigate where you can look to find other swingers.
